A problem faced by airports is that eventually spare parts for older style lights cease to be available.

All BBT inset lights installed in Australia are at the end of service life, and the logical answer is to upgrade them. If the labour component of BBT fixture overhaul is taken into account, it is simply more economic to upgrade than to repair the existing fittings. Once costs due to fixture failure, particularly premature lamp failure due to water ingress, and filter failure are factored in; it is probably costing money not to upgrade.

TCLA is engineered by Airport Lighting Specialists to fit into existing BBT V7/819 light bases, as well as old Europhane F6-4 and F13-4 bases. TCLA allows a light changeover time in most cases of about 10 minutes. Compare this option with pavement closure, coring, slotting, setting and curing time, and the labour content for any other form of upgrade.

TCLA features a factory sealed, removable optical cartridge. A wide variety of beam spreads and lamp options are available.
